Flicker

Summary

The goal of the project was to build a relatable story ending in as much tension as possible. I was the editor in this session, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough film to work with so the movie never got done.

21st Century Skills

Well I used My social skill to connect with the director with what she was looking for in each shot.

Reactions to Final Version

well I got one note from Eric that said “BRILLIANT!”on a film that wasn’t even there. I found is feedback hilarious and very coachable.

Evaluation of Final Version

I think that the film that was edited could have been decent all by itself but it didn’t capture the horror theme that we wanted to incorporate.

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

I learned that students have a lot less free time after school than thought they did. The problems I solved was that I decided to use a portable editing software to edit the film that we did have because the due date was coming up soon.

Session 2 Film (Pad Thai)

Summary

The goal of the project was to make a sitcom episode where 1 person gets angry at another person. I contributed my ideas to location, acting techniques and screenwriting. We did a great job individually and a greater job as a team.

21st Century Skills

I used problem solving to leap over the hurdles that life headed towards me to complete our project. I wasn’t there for a lot of the filming so I had to make a lot of the film decisions during the editing. We had a group chat so we were successful in communication but phone service got in the way many times. I also helped my editor with her software when it was having bugs or she just needed help using the software.  This will help me later because I want to be an actor and I have to live with the absences of people even if it’s myself.

Reactions to Final Version

So the Brian Favorite said that he liked the idea of us filming outside of school which was actually something that they were waiting for. My goal for the film was to make a short sitcom episode which didn’t necessarily succeed, but he liked that idea and the saw what I was going for in the film.

Evaluation of Final Version

We had a screenwriter which did a great job rising tension and lowering tension within the story unexpectedly. The camera switched off between the two characters through the dialogue so simply that it became smooth. We had some student-level editing and sound which contributed to the overall film and truly made the story come to life. Finally the actors did a good job finding the character’s goal, emotion and purpose.

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

I learned how much attendance actually means in the film. I didn’t get a lot of say in the actual filming of the film and I know for my next film to make sure that I’m there every step of the way.

Summary

This is the greatest movie ever made! Just kidding, but you should really scroll down and process these words.

The goal was to make a funny film, but all our funny takes would not fit in the video so I edited it out so we had a dramatic film. I used an editing software called imovie that help me edit with mobility and gives me more time. I edited the movie in one day and had time to talk to the director to make my final changes.

21st Century Skills

I used problem solving to make the film completely different than what it was intended to be. I also acted in the film which made me want to communicate with my colleagues more and be more involved with the film. imovie is a good enough software to make a simple student film, the great thing about it is that it’s a simplified software. This made me realize that in life people will give you things that may be weird and concerning, but you have to process it.

Reactions to Final Version

Some of the people liked my organization and editing life hacks that I incorporated into my film making process. The panel liked how I used a google drive folder to store all the videos and audio easily and safely.

Evaluation of Final Version

I think we could’ve done better if we had a shorter screenplay and if it was simplified.

What I Learned and Problems I Solved

I learned that editing is more complicated when your doing it for a school project. The problems that I solved was having too much story to fit into 1 minute. So I removed some scenes that weren’t as important and made it shorter.

Radio Lab:

Listen to a podcast on the subject here

*Kids who waited for a Piece of candy got higher S.A.T. scores

*The people tracked these kids to see what happened later on and realized that the lack of self control can lead to bad behavior and a success rate

*Self control is a key ability that can develop during a young age of 4

This American Life:

Watch video from This American life podcast, Back to School

*Parents really try to teach their kids at a young age by teaching them old skills that only waste their time and doesn’t benefit them as much as it used to

*Getting your ged is 4 years of high school crammed into a few months, It’s just crazy how thats possible

*BUT the people who got ged’s are slightly better than your normal drop outs and nowhere close than high school students and tend to drop out of real life decisions

*It shows how social media can mess up your social life

*Gives you an example of a better approach

*Basically tells you that putting yourself in other’s shoes will benefit you rather than being close-minded and put your anger out online

Can You Hear This?

Listen Smart – Safely Handling the Power of Sound

Sound is wonderful thing that gives people happiness and comfort, but we can’t get too loud. Especially with concerts. Look, concerts are awesome I know but if we want to maintain our hearing and be able to listen to music in the future then we need to be careful of what we listen to. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go to a concert and have fun but just be cautious about it.

The link above tells you about what to do in certain situations. This can be a guide for noise controlling, helping you save your ears. Example: you can use hearing protection equipment as a last resort when at a concert or live event that includes a lot of noise.

The charts below show the different types of sound and how they effect your hearing.
